A STUDY ON THE EFFECTS OF FLUORIDE CONTAINING DENTIFRICES ON ENAMEL SURFACE

Abstract
This study was purposed to compare the anticaries effect by kinds of fluoride containing dentifrices and kinds of fluorides in dentifrices. The author randomly selected 6 different fluoride containing dentifrices which were saled in Kwangju. Bovine enamel slabs containing artificial cariess lesions were treated with fluoride containing dentifrices and NaF, SMFP solution by pHcycling model.
Fluoride conent, acid resistance (expressed as calcium output in acid buffer) were measured for fluoride treated groups in comparison with the control group.
This study was purposed to compare the anticaries effect by kinds of fluoride containing dentifrices and kinds of fluorides in dentifrices. The author randomly selected 6 different fluoride containing dentifrices which were sated in Kwangju. Bovine enamel slabs containing artificial caries lesions were treated with fluoride containing dentifrices and NaF, SMFP solution by pH-cycling model.
Fluoride conent, acid resistance (expressed as calcium output in acid buffer) were measured for fluoride treated groups in comparison with the control group.
A comparative study of the results obtained have led to the following conclusions.
1. Fluoride content of DeBon group was higher than that of other fluoride containing dentifrice groups. But that of Pepsodent group was lower than that of others.
2. Colgate, Amore ion dentifrices were more effective in enhancing acid resistance than control
group.
3. Dentifrice containing a combination of sodium monofluorophosphate and sodium fluoride was higher in fluoride content than dentifrices containing NaF SMFP, respectively.
4. NaF solution was more effective on fluoride content and acid resistance than SMFP solution.
